And the verdict is....

So as you know, I have been anxiously awaiting the results of the Ophthalmology Residency match for the past couple of weeks, and I found out on Wednesday night that I will be staying here in LITTLE ROCK for the next four years to do my residency!!! Cam and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. This was my first choice for many reasons, and I am so excited that I will get to finish my training here!

So the way this works is that Ophthalmology training is only 3 years, but I won't start that until July 2010. We are required to complete an intern year before starting Ophthalmology. Usually people will do a year of Medicine, Surgery, or a something called a Transitional Year, which is sort of a mixture of different specialities that you rotate through during your intern year. I will be doing my intern year in Medicine here at UAMS. So I will get to enjoy our brand new hospital which actually opens tomorrow!!! My intern year will start in July 2009...and that will be here before I know it! Now I get to sit back with relief and wait for all of my friends to find out where they will be going for their residencies. The "main" residency match doesn't take place until March. Ophthalmology and a few other specialties are a little different in that they match early, but most people won't know until March.

Thanks to all of my wonderful family and friends who let me know they were thinking about me during all of this! You are all so special to me, and I truly never could have made it through the past 4 years of medical school without your support. So get ready...because the next 4 years are going to be a whole new ball game! :) I am looking forward to our future here in Little Rock and my road to becoming an Ophthalmologist!
