So as I told you all on Sunday, our bathroom remodel is underway! I decided to break it down by day so that I can be reminded of how fast...or slow things progress during the process.
You already heard about and saw pics of the damage done on Day 1.
Days 2 and 3...
We continued to strip wallpaper...yuck. The plumber came to take a look at what needed to be done. We are moving the shower head to different wall since the wall it is currently on will not exist in the new bathroom. A glass shower door will be there in place of that wall. First bummer, we have to knock the shower and vanity walls down to the studs in order accomodate the new plumbing. Oh well!
Day 4...
Our contractor, Mike, started demo on the shower walls. Bad news...the shower wasn't made with sheet rock...it was made with CONCRETE!! BAD! I felt so bad because it is really hard work to knock out a concrete wall and was definitely not what any of us were expecting to find there. Also because he had to hit so hard to break the concrete...some nails in the sheet rock in the rooms that back up to the shower started coming through and broke the sheet rock in those rooms...our guest bath and living room. Oh well...those can be patched. No big deal! Only other bummer...we stripped the wallpaper for nothing!! The paper was stuck so well and pulled off so much sheet rock that he is going to have to "skim coat" the entire room...ie put a small layer of new sheet rock over the top.
The vanity wall
As you can see above, the shower ceiling and wall with the plumbing are still intact here...
Day 5 (today)....
Mike was back out to finish demo of the shower. The ceiling of the shower and the wall that holds the current plumbing both came out today. I don't think we had any new news today. I am excited though because with the shower ceiling and that wall gone the room already looks so much bigger. I can start to picture what it is going to look like! YAY!
Shower without the ceiling and outside wall. You can see the plumbing is still there for now...
This week we also said farewell to Cam's cousin Adam. We had dinner at our house on Tuesday night for him because he is moving back to Memphis. He moved here from college at ASU 3 years ago to start working. He is moving back to Memphis to be with his sweet girlfriend, Shelbi, who was actually a sorority sister of mine in Fayetteville. I am really happy for him, but we are be sad to lose him here in LR!
I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend!

Can't wait to see the new bathroom!! What starts out as a small project always ends up being a much bigger task. I can't believe the shower wall was concrete. Who knew?? I love my "girls" pics. from Fri. night.
ReplyDeleteMiss you. Tell Cam he is getting good "on the job training" for all the home projects in the years ahead. Gary just repainted the downstairs bathroom for the 37th (ha) time. Hope to see you soon!
Love you & give Bailey a hug from me! :)
