We spent last week in Breckenridge, Colorado with Cam and his family! His dad took all of us kids out there for the week, and it was a blast! Cam's sisters, dad, and BIL got there on Monday. We got there Tuesday, and Annie's BF, Tom, got there Wednesday morning! We stayed in this fabulous ski in/out house in the middle of Peak 8. It was really convenient and nice to have a cozy place to unwind at the end of a long day of skiing!!
I hadn't been skiing in 9 years, and Cam hadn't been in 7, so we were a little nervous that our skills wouldn't be up to par. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it took us little time to get back into the grove! I think Cam was also happy that I was a decent skier so I could keep up! As for everyone else, Tom goes skiing about once a year but all the rest were beginners. So Cam, Tom, and I stuck together a bunch on the slopes!
It snowed the ENTIRE week! The only sunny day was Friday..and of course Saturday, the day we left! We got around 30 inches (close to 3 FEET ) of snow while we were there! It was super cold too; I think the high was 20 all week! Most mornings we woke up to it being 1-2 degrees outside with a negative windchill! Burr!! This is pretty atypical for this time of year, but it sure was nice to be skiing on fresh powder!
I realized on the trip that I LOVE to ski! It is a lot of work to carry all of your HEAVY gear around and the ski boots just SUCK but there really isn't anything else like it! If for nothing else, the views make being on the top of the mountain totally worth it. And I guess it helps if you can actually ski down! HA! Anyway, Cam and I decided that we want to go on a ski trip more often. Maybe not every year, but at least every couple of years!
It also must be pointed out that the trip was not without its road blocks. There are quite a few things that went wrong so I will just list them. Its good that we can laugh about these now and that they didn't completely spoil the trip!!
1. We took 2 2-wheel drive vehicles...not good in the snow! So we got chains for one of them. The first morning we put the chains on, they were too loose. When the car started going, one of the chains popped off and busted the brake line!!!! AHHH! This meant the car going to the shop and renting another car...4 wheel drive this time!!
2. Tom got really sick the first night. He threw up all night. We think a little altitude sickness might have been culprit!
3. Jenni lost her ONLY pair of glasses while skiing! She was blind the rest of the week!
4. We missed the bus and had to walk FOREVER to the house in ski boots while carrying our skis! I am still not over this one. :)
5. Tom got a speeding ticket on the way home.
Ok....so these don't sound that bad now but at the time you can just imagine! Anyway, we still had a great time, and I can't wait to go back!
